The Taj Mahal, built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, took 22 years and 20,000 artisans to complete. Today it draws over 8 million visitors annually and is universally recognised as one of the world's greatest architectural masterpieces.
