Capital of Rajasthan · Founded 1727 · UNESCO World Heritage Site
Jaipur, the captivating capital of Rajasthan, is a city that wears its history like a jewel. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II, it was India's first planned city — laid out in a precise grid with wide boulevards and colour-coded neighbourhoods. The entire Old City was painted terracotta pink in 1876 to welcome Prince Albert, and the tradition has been maintained ever since, earning it the nickname "The Pink City."
In 2019, Jaipur was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today it is one of India's most visited destinations, drawing millions of travellers with its stunning Mughal-Rajput architecture, vibrant bazaars filled with gems and textiles, world-class cuisine and the warmth of its people.
